OCD is one of the most common mental disorders in Singapore

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects 1 in every 28 Singaporeans in their lifetime

The term "OCD" has been used very loosely and inaccurately in recent years, adding to the stigma against the disorder. In reality, OCD is defined by:

(1) Obsessions - recurrent, persistent ideas, images or impulses and
(2) Compulsions - mental/physical acts that are repetitive and purposeful, performed in response to an obsession.

These behaviours are often attempts to reduce the anxiety caused by the obsession.
