Zahier lost his sight at 19 due to a Retinal Detachment. At first, he felt lost and helpless as he felt he could not provide as the eldest brother.  However, his grit and the presence of strong family support led him to chart a new path. He slowly picked up his passion again – music. He learnt to play multiple musical instruments and is now married with a young boy. He works hard to provide for his family. He works in a perfumery, plays music in a band, and gives speeches primarily to school students.

In 2004, Tee was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa which his doctors said would lead to total or near-total blindness. At first, he was devastated as he could no longer play his favourite sports. However, he realised that by harnessing that ‘hunger’ (desire) for life again, he could turn his life around. In 2017, he joined the national para-cycling team as a tandem cyclist and won a bronze medal at the ASEAN Para Games. He has dreams to write a book and will be competing in the Paralympics.
